ʻIolani KAMAUOHA

Director of Education

Aloha!

My name is ʻIolani Kamauoha. I was born and raised in Papakōlea and now reside in Kālia with my daughter, ʻAuliʻi. I’m a proud graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where I earned a B.A. in Hawaiian Studies and Hawaiian Language. My love for nature, moʻolelo, ʻāina, and our ʻōlelo makuahine was nurtured from a young age through hula and Hawaiian immersion education.

I joined the Kula Krew in 2016 to help revive afterschool programming, which has since grown into the Lamakū & Junior Leader Afterschool Program. In 2023, I embraced the kuleana of serving as Director of Education to oversee our educational programs and school-based initiatives with intention and heart.

My hope is to create nurturing spaces and opportunities for the youth and community of Papakōlea—spaces rooted in ancestral knowledge and Hawaiian values that deepen identity and connection to place. I encourage our youth to pursue their passions, embody excellence in character, and boldly chase their dreams in this ever-changing world.

Na wai hoʻi ka ʻole o ke akamai? He alanui i maʻa i ka hele ʻia e ko kākou kūpuna.

Who would not be wise on a path well-traveled by our ancestors? We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. May we honor the wisdom of our kūpuna and claim our place in this continuum of indigenous brilliance.
